Mexico City, May 2, 2025. On Thursday afternoon, the discovery of the lifeless body of Perla Alison Martínez Rojas, an eight-year-old girl who had been reported missing since last Sunday, April 27, in the Iztapalapa municipality, was confirmed.

The minor was last seen when she left her home in the Santa Martha Acatitla neighborhood to go to a nearby store. According to relatives, Perla Alison asked permission to buy some candy and never returned. Since then, a nationwide Amber Alert has been activated, prompting an intense search by authorities and citizen groups.
The discovery occurred on a vacant lot near the Constitución de 1917 metro station. A neighbor, alerted by a foul odor coming from an abandoned building, called 911. Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) cordoned off the area, and experts from the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office subsequently recovered the body.
The Prosecutor’s Office reported that the body showed signs of violence and that an investigation into the crime of femicide has been opened. Initial indications suggest that the minor may have been the victim of abuse before being killed, although the results of the autopsy will officially determine the cause of death.
The news has sparked profound outrage among the public, especially on social media, where Perla Alison’s case was widely shared during the days of the search. Feminist groups and civil associations are demanding justice and exemplary punishment for whoever is found responsible.

Francisco Rojas, the girl’s father, told the media: “Our daughter was taken from us. We have no words to express this pain. We only ask that this not go unpunished and that no other family has to go through this.”
For her part, the head of government, Clara Brugada, expressed her dismay through her X account (formerly Twitter): “We deeply regret the death of Perla Alison. There are no words sufficient to express the pain this represents. We will strengthen security and work to ensure that this crime does not go unpunished.”
The Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office has called on the public to provide any information that could help identify the attacker(s). Security cameras have begun reviewing the case, and the Cyber Police have been requested to assist in tracking down possible leads.
Meanwhile, neighbors, family members, and classmates organized a vigil with candles, flowers, and drawings in front of Perla Alison’s home, as a sign of mourning and support.
Mexico continues to face a crisis of disappearances and femicides of minors. Perla Alison’s case adds to a long list that highlights the urgent need for effective public policies to protect children and firmly punish those responsible for these atrocious crimes.
