An unrepentant driver who struck a nine-year-old girl while she was crossing the street after running a red light initially blamed the youngster for the collision until video revealed that he had lied about his activities. Fathering two children Qadeer Hussain, 55, was sentenced today to eight years and four months in prison for the dangerous driving that killed Alice Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The girl, her mother, and her six-year-old brother, Joseph, were on their way to a summer celebration on July 8, 2023, when they stopped at a crossing at Kings Cross Road in Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, as the lights changed and other cars slowed down, Hussain made a desperate attempt to run the red light by speeding up by 20 mph over the speed limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While he was doing this, he was unaware that the family had begun crossing the street. Alice, who was a few steps ahead of the others, was hit by Hussain\u2019s black Vauxhall Corsa as it was traveling towards the town center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The small girl passed away a few days after being hospitalized and suffering severe injuries. Hussain of Essex Street, Halifax, initially attempted to minimize his infringement by arguing that he had been driving legally and blamed the young girl for rushing into the road, according to the Halifax Examiner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But according to dashcam footage obtained by the police, Hussain was moving at roughly 49 mph when the traffic lights turned red.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is the Crown\u2019s case that the defendant intentionally chose to run the red light at high speed in the belief that nobody was crossing the road,\u201d stated James Lake, the prosecutor. Hussain later admitted to driving recklessly and causing the death in front of Bradford Crown Court in February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alice\u2019s mother Claire told him in court that she would \u201cnever be whole again\u201d following his \u201caggressive and monstrous\u201d act. Joe, Alice\u2019s younger brother, characterized Hussain as \u201cbad\u201d and \u201cmean\u201d in an impact statement. \u201cIt makes me feel very sad when drivers speed because they know they shouldn\u2019t do it and are mean and bad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, he received his hefty prison term and a 10-year, 2-month driving suspension. \u201cQadeer Hussain devastated us and destroyed our daughter Alice,\u201d Alice\u2019s family claimed in a statement. \u201cWe want drivers to consider the consequences of taking chances and driving too fast after seeing Alice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We presume that her killer feels bad about what he did today. \u201cWe are extremely appreciative of everyone who has assisted us, including the medical staff who attempted to save her, the charities that have helped us, the police, and the witnesses.\u201d \u201cTheir videos demonstrated his actions, and we strongly advise anyone who is able to do so to purchase a dashcam.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLastly, we want our amazing girl to be remembered for more than just her untimely and tragic death.\u201d A joyful, intelligent bookworm, Alice was ours. She was also a humorous, kind, and kind daughter, sister, grandchild, niece, cousin, and friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We shall be incredibly proud of her forever. \u201cToday\u2019s sentence will not bring Alice back to her family, but I hope it provides a level of closure that Hussain has been prosecuted for his actions,\u201d stated Detective Sergeant Steve Suggitt of the Major Collision Enquiry Team. \u201cThis was a very sad event, and Alice\u2019s family and those impacted by it are still in our thoughts.\u201d \u201cWe want to express our gratitude to everyone who helped us with our inquiries, especially those who shared dash cam footage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
