(WKYT\/Gray News) \u2013 Kentucky authorities are updating their investigation into the death of an infant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said a preliminary autopsy was completed on the baby who was&nbsp;found dead&nbsp;last week in a trash bag inside a closet of an area home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Ginn, the infant was a baby boy, but his cause of death remains inconclusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI understand the community\u2019s concern and sensitivity surrounding the death of a child,\u201d Ginn said in the coroner\u2019s report. \u201cWe are conducting a thorough and methodical death investigation to ensure all facts are carefully considered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lexington Police Department said its investigation started last Wednesday when officers received a call for an unresponsive infant at a home on Park Avenue in Lexington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police say they found the baby\u2019s body wrapped in a towel in a black trash bag that was left inside a closet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The infant was pronounced dead at the scene, with the boy\u2019s mother, later identified as 21-year-old Laken Snelling, arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gray-kwtx-prod.gtv-cdn.com\/resizer\/v2\/ORQDMH6RUBA7XC3O23HRPAV3OU.jpg?auth=c78bd70c8b1512e2badb9ac63b6bda2515c5b432e57fdcab8d069b7e8a32e630&amp;width=980&amp;height=551&amp;smart=true\" alt=\"Laken Snelling, 21, is a senior at the University of Kentucky. She is also a member of the school\u2019s stunt team.(Lexington Police Department)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Snelling is facing charges of concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was arrested over the weekend and pleaded&nbsp;not guilty&nbsp;during a Tuesday court appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court records showed that the 21-year-old must remain in home incarceration and live with her parents after posting bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snelling is a senior at the University of Kentucky, a university spokesperson confirmed. She is also a member of the school\u2019s stunt team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities did not immediately release who initially called them about the baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lexington police said the department\u2019s special victims section is continuing the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Copyright 2025 WKYT via Gray Local Media, Inc.
