The room was completely silent. Not a sound. Only the deep voice of the judge echoed as he read out the verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Former officer Alex Miller is found guilty of corruption and abuse of power\u2026 Do you have anything to say, Mr. Miller?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex stood with his head bowed, fists clenched so tightly his knuckles were white. He no longer heard the words \u2014 each sentence tore him apart from the inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Please\u2026 \u2014 he whispered hoarsely. \u2014 Let me say goodbye to Rex\u2026 He\u2026 he\u2019s all I have left. I have no family anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A murmur swept through the room. The judge frowned and looked at the prosecutor. He hesitated for a moment, then nodded. A few moments later, the door opened and Rex entered \u2014 a German shepherd with eyes more human than many people\u2019s. He walked with purpose, as if he knew this was no ordinary day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex dropped to his knees, arms outstretched. Rex ran to him, whining loudly. The man hugged the dog, pressing his forehead to his.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Forgive me, Rex\u2026 I\u2019m sorry I let you down\u2026 I\u2019m sorry I couldn\u2019t prove my innocence\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tears streamed down his cheeks. Rex let out a low growl, as if in protest \u2014 and suddenly pulled away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without looking back, the dog ran straight to another officer standing by the wall. It was Alex\u2019s former colleague \u2014 Oliver. The same man who had testified against him. He had seemed calm\u2026 until now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rex stopped in front of him and began to growl. Deeply. Menacingly. The courtroom held its breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 What does this mean?.. \u2014 the judge whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oliver stepped back. Rex moved forward, rose onto his hind legs, and pushed his nose into the breast pocket of the uniform. Oliver flinched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Get that dog away from me! \u2014 he shouted, but it was already too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A guard stepped forward, but the prosecutor motioned for him to wait. A court officer approached, opened the pocket \u2014 and pulled out a flash drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 What is this? \u2014 the judge asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rex sat down at Oliver\u2019s feet and didn\u2019t take his eyes off him for a second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flash drive was plugged into a laptop. A video began to play. Oliver counting money. Oliver forging documents. Oliver on the phone: \u201cWe\u2019ll pin everything on Miller. He won\u2019t talk \u2013 too proud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 This hearing is suspended. The witness is placed under arrest. The verdict against Miller is invalid pending further investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex still knelt on the floor, clutching his chest. Rex slowly walked back over to him and pressed his nose to his cheek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
