For the past few days, the 70-year-old pensioner had hardly been able to sleep peacefully in his old house. Every night, strange noises came from under the porch \u2014 as if hundreds of tiny bodies were rustling against the ground, occasionally interrupted by a faint, chilling sound, like a whisper.<\/p>\n\n\n

That night it became unbearable. Around three in the morning, the man couldn\u2019t take it anymore: he grabbed a flashlight and a shovel and went outside. He followed the noise. When he reached the porch, he knelt down at the spot where the sounds came from and shone the beam of his flashlight into the darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His breath caught: the ground was covered with hundreds of whitish-green oval objects, resembling large chicken eggs. Some were partly buried in the earth, others lay exposed on the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What alarmed him most was that many of the eggs were beginning to change color \u2014 dark spots appeared on the shells, as if something inside was moving. With a trembling hand, the old man picked one up. It was warm and slightly moist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 My God\u2026 what is this? \u2014 he whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From within emerged a writhing dark creature. It wasn\u2019t a chick. It was a baby snake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He barely had time to recoil when a menacing hiss came from the darkness. From under the boards slithered out a full-grown snake \u2014 thick, long, with glistening scales. It suddenly raised its head, opened its mouth wide, and lunged at the man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrified, the old man nearly dropped his flashlight. He swung the shovel and ran without thinking. His heart pounded so hard it felt like it would burst out of his chest. Reaching his neighbors\u2019 house, he called emergency services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the specialists arrived, they could hardly believe their eyes: under the porch there was indeed a huge snake\u2019s nest, hundreds of eggs, and several adult snakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the porch it was warm and damp, which is why the snakes had laid their eggs there.<\/p>\n\n\n
