An elderly woman, around sixty years old, walked into the salon. In her hands, she held a photograph \u2014 a little wrinkled, with faded edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the picture was a beautiful woman with a short, neat haircut and a gentle smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman looked insecure: she was slightly hunched, her eyes darted around nervously, and her fingers fidgeted with the photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the entrance, she was greeted by the receptionist \u2014 young, with bright makeup and a confident smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 How can I help you? \u2014 she asked, glancing at the visitor with a judging look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Do you have any available stylists? \u2014 the woman asked timidly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Yes, of course. Please, come in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman slowly approached the chair where the stylist was waiting for her. The stylist smiled, but her eyes remained cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Sit down, \u2014 she said. \u2014 What would you like to do today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elderly woman hesitated for a moment, then handed her the photograph. Her voice trembled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Could you make my hair like this? \u2014 she asked softly. \u2014 It\u2019s\u2026 very important to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Girls, look what this old lady wants! She thinks she\u2019s a model! If I give her that haircut, I\u2019ll die of embarrassment!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laughter filled the salon. Someone said, \u201cMaybe she\u2019s going on a date!\u201d Another added, \u201cWith that haircut, she\u2019ll look great even in her coffin!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman stood in the middle of the room, head bowed. Her fingers gripped the photo tighter and tighter until it crumpled completely. Tears glistened in her eyes, but she refused to cry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without saying a word, she turned and walked out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An hour later, the same woman returned to the same salon. The stylists froze in shock \u2014 and instantly regretted what they had done \"\ud83d\ude31\"\"\ud83d\ude22\"

In the doorway stood the same woman \u2014 but now she was unrecognizable. Her well-groomed hair shone under the lights, her delicate makeup highlighted her features, and her posture was straight and confident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She held the same photo in her hand, but this time she didn\u2019t hide it \u2014 she showed it proudly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The salon fell silent. Even the receptionist stood still, her mouth open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Well, ladies, \u2014 she said calmly as she walked closer. \u2014 In another salon, they treated me with respect. They listened to me, didn\u2019t laugh, didn\u2019t judge. And they did what you couldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She paused, looking at their embarrassed faces.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u2014 You didn\u2019t even try to understand me, \u2014 she continued. \u2014 It was easier for you to laugh than to be kind. I didn\u2019t just want a haircut. Today is my son\u2019s wedding day. I haven\u2019t had my hair cut or done in ten years\u2026 since the day I buried my husband. Today, I wanted to look beautiful \u2014 for him. For both of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The silence became almost tangible. None of the women could lift their eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 I hope, \u2014 she said sadly, \u2014 that when you grow older, someone will remind you of this day. And then you\u2019ll understand how painful words can be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was about to leave but turned back:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Oh, I almost forgot. The owner of this salon is an old friend of mine. I think she\u2019ll be very interested to hear what wonderful employees she has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
