My husband and I live in a village \u2014 it\u2019s quiet and peaceful. He works on a farm, and I stay at home, tending to the garden and the household. My mother-in-law lives in the city with her younger son \u2014 and to be honest, we\u2019ve never gotten along. She didn\u2019t accept me from day one. Always giving judgmental looks or making sarcastic comments. But I endured it \u2014 for my husband\u2019s sake. Besides, the distance helped \u2014 we didn\u2019t see her often.<\/p>\n\n\n

But recently, she suddenly said she wanted to \u201cget away from the city hustle\u201d and came to stay with us for a week. Claimed she missed us. I had a bad feeling about it, but again \u2014 my husband insisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the very first days, she started criticizing everything I did. The soup was too salty, the curtains weren\u2019t ironed, and she said I was raising our 5-year-old daughter the wrong way. She constantly provoked arguments and even managed to drive a wedge between me and my husband. One night, I broke down crying \u2014 I just wanted it all to end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When she finally left, I sighed with relief. But the very next day, something strange started happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our dog, Bucks \u2014 the kindest, smartest dog \u2014 suddenly began acting aggressive. He growled at the empty garden, ran in circles, and started scratching the dirt near one of the garden beds, barking and digging. I tried to stop him \u2014 he wouldn\u2019t listen. He just stared at me and kept going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day, it continued. I couldn\u2019t take it anymore \u2014 I grabbed a shovel. My heart was pounding. A dog doesn\u2019t dig and growl for no reason. Something was scaring him. I started digging where he was barking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026a black bag. Tied shut. My heart skipped a beat as I pulled it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside \u2014 a terrible smell and strange items: clumps of hair, an old child\u2019s dress (not my daughter\u2019s!), a doll with a broken head, and \u2014 a bundle of photos of me, my husband, and our daughter\u2026 with the eyes scratched out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A chill ran down my spine. I realized this was something occult \u2014 maybe even a curse. Who could\u2019ve done it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was only one answer \u2014 my mother-in-law. She was the only one who had been in our yard. The only one who could have buried it while I was cooking or with our child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn\u2019t know what to do. I brought the bag to a church. The priest said it was \u201ca curse meant to destroy a family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I never believed in such things, but what happened with our dog, and everything my mother-in-law said and did those last days\u2026 it all fit into one terrifying picture.<\/p>\n\n\n

Since then, I\u2019ve forbidden her from ever setting foot in our home again. I told my husband everything. At first, he didn\u2019t believe me \u2014 but then he saw the photos and the bag I had kept as proof. He was silent for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And since then, our dog only sleeps at the door \u2014 as if guarding us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t know what exactly my mother-in-law intended, but I\u2019m certain of one thing: she will never cross the threshold of our home again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
