Lina watched the doctor\u2019s expression shift from confusion\u2026 to fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d Lina asked, her voice trembling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The doctor swallowed hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2014I see a fetus\u2026 but there is something else beside it. A shadow-like mass. It doesn\u2019t look like a normal medical condition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lina\u2019s stomach twisted.
\u201cA shadow?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The doctor nodded slowly.
\u201cIt\u2019s almost as if\u2026 something is attached to the baby.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That word shattered every remaining piece of courage inside her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The doctor stepped back from the monitor. \u201cI think you need further tests, maybe a specialist. I\u2019ve never seen anything like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lina could barely hear her anymore. Her ears were ringing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She dressed in silence and left the hospital. The streets felt blurred, voices distant.
Something was wrong\u2014terribly wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When she reached home, Daniel was already back from his work trip. He rushed to hug her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A loud BANG<\/strong> echoed from the nursery room\u2014the room they had decorated just three days ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel flinched.

Another bang.
Then a dragging sound.
Something\u2014or someone\u2014was moving inside the empty room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel took a cautious step toward the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStay here,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as soon as he touched the doorknob\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The room fell silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Completely silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pushed the door open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crib was shaking\u2026 slowly\u2026 rhythmically\u2026 as if someone had just been leaning over it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And on the wall, written in something dark and smeared, were the words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
