He had been crying for almost forty minutes \u2014 tired, frightened, sensitive to every sound. I rocked him, whispered to him, hummed softly \u2014 all to no avail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People around us began to turn around. Some with irritation, others with pity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man leaned closer, his face red with anger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014 Do something! Make him stop! \u2014 he hissed. \u2014 This isn\u2019t free, you know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I replied quietly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014 I\u2019m trying. I\u2019m so sorry, please\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He smirked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014 Try the bathroom. And stay there until he shuts up. Better yet \u2014 for the entire flight. And if not, pay for my ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My hands were shaking. The baby was sobbing, and inside me everything tightened with shame and helplessness. I stood up. Not because I agreed \u2014 but because I could no longer endure the stares and his voice. I didn\u2019t have money for another ticket. I had already sold my last belongings to pay for this trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had taken only a few steps down the aisle when a man in a dark suit appeared beside me. Calm, composed, confident. I\u2019ll take your seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the kind stranger returned to my seat, the man in the aisle burst out laughing loudly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014 Finally! At least one normal person! We got rid of this circus! His face went pale.
